Wow I can’t believe we have already completed a whole week and a half of Year 5!

I hope you have all had a wonderful summer holiday. We have loved having the children back with us and it has been a delight to see them enjoying sunny break times with their friends.

We have started reading our very first Year 5 core text this year: Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carol.  This already has children on the edge of their seats and begging to read more! Congratulations to Jack for being our first Regular Reader. Remember to read at home 5 times or more to enter into the prize draw.

In History, we have started to explore our exciting topic on Ancient Egyptians and their beliefs.  We have opened up the topic by looking at the Ancient Egyptian’s version of ‘The Creation Story’ and we worked hard to remember the names of many Egyptian Gods.  Lots of interesting questions have already been asked and children can’t wait to find out more about mummification and how exactly the brain does get removed through the victim’s nostrils!

In Maths, we have been using place value counters to help us understand the value of 5 and 6 digit numbers.  Working brilliantly with our partners, we could visually represent the numbers and recognise the value of each digit in a 5 and 6 digit number.

We enjoyed a lovely sunny rugby session this week. Lee taught us how to pass and catch the ball with accuracy.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and let’s hope we continue to have some sunshine for a little while longer!
